ArrowOur Mission

Our mission, as set forth by the National Science Foundation:

"To provide the highest magnetic fields and necessary services for scientific research conducted by users from a wide range of disciplines, including physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, biology and geology."

We focus on four objectives to implement this vision:

  • Develop a wide range of user facilities and services for magnet-related research at the frontiers of science that are open to all qualified scientists and engineers
  • Advance magnet and magnet materials technology in cooperation with industry
  • Promote a stimulating multidisciplinary research environment and administer a high-quality in-house research program that uses and advances the facilities
  • Develop an extensive educational outreach program that capitalizes on the unique resources of the lab in order to address national needs in science, research, technology and related fields.
